Ball, a Retired FBI Special Agent, passed away September 20th at The Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center. Edward Joseph Ball was a native of Northern Virginia and a Virginia State Track Record Holder in the Half Mile for more than 35 years.From his early years and throughout his life, Booty demonstrated leadership ability, intelligence, resilience, and love for his family.

He was a strong supporter of the revitalization of downtown Richmond and many other aspects of his city.Booty attributed his business success to the University of Virginia.He was a trustee of both the Colgate Darden School of Business Foundation and the College of Arts and Science Foundation. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Booty served on the vestry and as superintendent of the Sunday School when his children were young. He is survived by his daughters, Sarah Armstrong Hamlin and her husband, Frank Mallory Hamlin of Dallas, Texas and Frances Armstrong Ladd and her husband, Edward Bradford Ladd, Jr. He leaves behind his six grandchildren in whom he took extra delight: Elizabeth Wilkes Hamlin, John Thompson Hamlin, Henry Talbott Hamlin, Frances Campbell Ladd, Edward Bradford Ladd, III and Sarah Ruffm Ladd.He served on corporate boards for Texas City Refining, the Richmond Sun Trust Bank, and Exeter Capital Management.Booty was also the past Chairman of the Capital Region Airport Commission, a position he only recently resigned.
